11. DGII Organization was initially part of the single composite R&D and Inspection Organization and the process to divided into the two functions viz R&D and Inspection was started in 1958 with the division of the Armament discipline. This process was completed in 1968 with the division of Engineering discipline.

12. In 1963, the Directorate of Stores Production (Navy) was transferred to DGI and redesignated as Directorate of Development and Inspection (Marine Stores)- DDI (MS). In 1968, DDI (MS) was bifurcated into Directorate of Development and Inspection (Marine Stores) and bifurcated into Directorate of Development and Inspection was redesignated as Directorate of Production and Inspection (Naval)- DPIN. DWPP was basically created to look after the requirements of new construction ships, mainly the Leander Class fridges, at MDL Bombay while DPIN was for all Naval Stores and Equipment along with spares.

13. In 1965, the Directorate of Inspection Vehicles was further bifurcated into Directorate of Inspection Vehicles and Directorate of Vehicles (R&D).

14. In 1968, Directorate of Engineering R&D was also bifurcated into Directorate of Production and Inspection Engineering Equipment (DPIE) and Directorate of Engineering R&D.

In the same year Directorate of R&D (General) was bifurcated into Directorate of Inspection (General Stores) and Directorate of R&D (General Stores).

Later in 1975, DWP was also given the responsibility of all Marine Engineering and Hull Equipment including rotating electrical machinery (except ventilation fans) along with spares while DPIN was given the responsibility for Electrical, Electronics, Weapons and other patternised Naval Stores items including ventilation fans.
