7. In 1960, a Defence Cataloguing Authority was formed under the CGDP, which was later reconstituted as Directorate of Standardisation and placed directly under the Department of Defence Production in 1965.


8. Self- reliance and self- sufficiency being the key factors of the defence policy of the country, indigenisation process started during early sixties, DGQA Organization has been actively involved in the activities of indigenisation of Defence Equipments and Stores ever since.

In order to efficiently carry out this demanding task, Technical Committees were constituted under each Technical Director. These Committees are functioning under the over all control of Department of Defence Supplies in the Ministry of Defence.


9. In 1961, Directorate of Vehicles and Engineering was bifurcated into Directorate of Inspection Vehicles (under CGDP) and Directorate of Engineering (Under R&D Organization)

10. In March, 1963 the CGDP was redesignated as the Controller General of Inspection and Planning (CGIP).

In August 1963 the Planning Cell of the CGIP was placed directly under the Secretary Defence Production and (CGIP) was redesignated as the Director General of Inspection (DGI).
