5. In November 1955 on the recommendations of the Armed forces Re-Organization Committee, the DTD Organization was transferred to the newly created Controller General of Defence Production (CGDP) under the Ministry of Defence. The Directorate of Technical Development was bifurcated in 1956 into two separate Directorates ie:-

  • Armament

  • General

 

6. In 1958, a beginning was made to bifurcate the Research, Development & Inspection function of these two Directorates. The re-organised Directorates of Research and Development (Armaments) was transferred to the newly created R&D Organization. The Inspection Organization was placed under the CGDP and was re-organised into the following Directorates:-

  • Directorate of Inspection (Armament)

  • Directorate of Vehicles and Engineering

  • Directorate of R&D (General)

  • Directorate of Production and Inspection (Electronics)
